THE PRESS STILL CAN'T SPELL COVFEFE — OR THE TRUTH
Nine years later, they are still doing the bit. The country moved on. The chyrons did not.

It has been nine years since a late-night tweet gave this publication its name, and the prestige press is still explaining the joke to each other in a conference room. They thought covfefe was the story. The country thought the story was a President who did not talk like a press secretary.
That is the whole media era in one mug. They mock the spelling and miss the sentence. They fact-check the tone and skip the border. They will spend a week on a staffer's old tweets and eighteen minutes on a 22 percent drop in fentanyl deaths. Then they will ask why trust collapsed like a stale bundt.
Hot Covfefe exists because a lot of people got tired of being told they were crazy for noticing. Noticing that cities got shabbier. Noticing that the experts kept being wrong in the same direction. Noticing that 'democracy' meant the file the newsroom already liked. You can only gaslight a diner crowd for so long before they start bringing their own thermos.
So here is the house rule. We will spell the President's name right. We will spell the policy right. We will not pretend a feeling is a fact. And if a chyron calls that misinformation, they can look up the word after they look up covfefe.
Refill is free. The truth was never on the kids' menu.
